Parenting Workshops

Onewa Parents Centre offers an extensive programme of special parenting workshops throughout the year to our members and the wider public.

These one-off workshops are designed to support you on your parenting journey through the major milestones of the first year and beyond. Each session has an invited speaker who is knowledgeable about a particular stage of your child’s development and can give you practical tips and advice.

Cost:
You can attend any or all of the sessions and you don’t need to be a Parents Centre member to attend – although they do get a 50% discount. $10 for Parents Centre members, $20 for non-members. Places are limited so book early.

Venue:
All classes are held at the Onewa Parents Centre rooms in the Rawene Centre, Birkenhead.

Hi, I’m Kim, mum to two gorgeous school-age children, and certified sleep sense consultant. I started Cherished Sleep, sleep consulting to put sleep back on the agenda, and help you get more of it. Parenting is hard enough without missing out on sleep!

I have been involved in health, education and training for the past 18+ years, and it has culminated in a passion for sleep (or that could have been when I became a mum).

During this seminar I’ll cover my seven most important sleep tips to help your baby sleep well.

This includes information on sleep cycles and sleep props and how these affect your child’s sleep. I’ll cover how you can cue your baby’s body and brain for sleep, and how to help avoid overtiredness. Plus all you need to know about routines, and more!

Because everyone needs a good night’s sleep!

Do you know when it is safe to return to exercising after you have had your baby? Christie from Active Soul is passionate about getting mums back into exercising in the safest way possible. She will cover the following in these sessions:

     - the importance of taking time out for yourself,

    - the change in your thinking and bodies post baby

    - how to embark on a safe return to exercise

    - checking for abdominal separation

    - activating pelvic floor and TA

    - suggestions for starting your exercise journey

    - the benefits of taking that time out for yourself

Christie will cover the above topics at the Centre before taking you and your bubs out for a walk through Birkenhead, stopping at a park for a light workout that caters specifically to you and your needs as a Mum looking at starting or re-embarking on their fitness journey.

You will finish back at the Centre for some essential key stretches, with time at the end for any questions or reflections.

The perfect opportunity to make your health and wellbeing a priority. After all, happy mum = happy bubs!

For many women, birth is a happy and fulfilling experience. Often however, there are unanswered questions, feelings of trauma, pain, guilt, anger and sadness that don't disappear with time. This Birth Debrief aims to acknowledge and address these feelings in a supportive environment where mums are able to share their experiences, make sense of what happened, make peace, and move on. Birth trauma is real and can happen to anyone, leaving physical and mental scars. This small group course (three sessions) will help you understand and come to terms with your birth experience, allowing you to let go and look ahead.

If the class is fully booked, please still register for the waiting list so our speaker knows the need for the course and we can get in touch with the next dates.

Price includes book used on the course.

Please note this course is best suited for mums who have older babies or children that can be left at home with family.

This is a Dad's version of our Baby Massage classes. Other caregivers are welcome too but our focus is the dads. Our speaker Sarah enjoyed the last class with the dads bonding further with their babies.
Mums are welcome to wait outside at the seats during the class in case baby needs a feed. Or go to a local cafe together for a drink, and have cellphones on just in case.
